At the 31st Liepāja International Star Festival, on 10 March, a magnificent, monumental and exciting piano music concert featuring the pianist Vestards Šimkus will take place in the Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars”, at the Chamber Hall named after Dzintars Jurgelaitis.
Vestards Šimkus will juxtapose the well-known late 19th and early 20th century composer Alexander Scriabin and his contemporary Felix Blumenfeld, who is not so well known, however, is the author of very interesting music.
“This music is a combination of romantic emotions, the beauty of impressionism and the tradition-based modernist view of the farthest music horizons,” Mr.Šimkus says about the concert programme.
Mr.Šimkus' solo concert will feature Scriabin's Piano Sonata No.8 and musical poems, and Blumenfeld's suite “Episodes in the Life of a Dancer” and the Sonata-Fantasia.
From 25 February to 11 March, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will invite its listeners to the Liepāja International Star Festival for the 31st time already, offering a diverse and outstanding journey into the world of music. This year, music lovers will have the chance to experience symphonic music performed by brilliant soloists, jazz, Latvian choir music and chamber music.
The 31st Liepāja International Stars Festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, the State Cultural Capital Foundation, Liepāja City and SEB bank.
Tickets for the Festival concerts can be purchased at “Biļešu paradīze” ticket offices.
