Liepāja Symphony Orchestra is announcing an open competition for 2 vacancies: 

the DEPUTY CONCERTMASTER POSITION OF THE PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT GROUP 

The competition will take place at the concert hall “Lielais dzintars” (at Radio iela 8, Liepāja) on 9 December 2024.

Requirements for the Applicants:

  • Professional music degree in percussion instrument performance or a music college student in percussion instrument performance;
  • Experience with playing timpani;
  • Experience with working in an orchestra;
  • Ability to work in the primary job with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra.

Main job duties:

  • Prepare and play the percussion instrument section of the orchestra in high artistic quality according to conductor’s instructions;
  • To comply with the work schedules and compositions, work arrangements and other internal rules and regulations of the SJSC “Liepāja Symphony Orchestra”;
  • Maintain and improve individual skills throughout the contract validity period.

Monthly salary for the full-time job is 1650 EUR before taxes stipulated in the rules and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

The 1st round program:
Anthony Cirone - Sonata No.1 for timpani and piano.
One piece at the applicant’s choice on marimba, xylophone or vibraphone.

The 2nd round program:
1. N. Rimskij-Korsakow - Scheherazade Op. 35;
2. P. Hindemith - Symphonic Metamorphosis;
3. L. Bernstein - West Side Story;
4. C. Saint-Saëns, Samson & Delilah;
5. G. Bize - Carmen;
6. I. Stawinsky - L'Oiseau de feu;
7. R. Strauss - Der Rosenkavalier Op. 59;
8. L. van Beethoven – Symphony No. 1, 3nd movement;
9. S. Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 2, 2nd movement.

the CONCERTMASTER POSITION OF THE TROMBONE GROUP

The competition will take place at the concert hall “Lielais dzintars” (at Radio iela 8, Liepāja) on 9 December 2024 at 12:00.

Requirements for the Applicants:

  • Professional higher music education in the speciality of trombone playing;
  • Experience with working in an orchestra, experience as a concertmaster will be considered as an advantage;
  • Ability to work in the primary job with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra.

Main job duties:

  • To prepare and play orchestral pieces of the trombone section at high artistic quality;
  • To ensure the quality of work of the trombone section;
  • To adhere to the work plans and structure, as well as other internal regulations of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra;
  • To maintain and to improve his/her individual mastery throughout duration of the contract.
