In December, a grand concert at the "Great Amber" Concert Hall will bring together the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian Radio Big band, and guest soloists to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the legendary conductor, music educator, and arranger Jēkabs Ozoliņš. Having devoted his life to shaping and developing the musical life of the city of Liepāja, Ozoliņš has long been one of its leading artistic figures and its spiritual heart.
In 1987, Jēkabs Ozoliņš became the conductor of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra. He regularly conducted programmes featuring symphonic and popular music, and played an active role in the orchestra’s recognition as a permanent professional ensemble.
As the orchestra’s conductor, he also contributed greatly to projects that brought together choral, symphonic, and popular music.
This unique artistic signature will be vividly present in his 80th anniversary concert – in every piece, every arrangement, and every chosen motif, we will hear the story of his musical life, where classical values meet joyful improvisation and heartfelt sincerity.
