3 recordings nominated for the Golden Microphone

The nominees for the Latvian music recording award “Golden Microphone 2026” have just been announced at a ceremonial event, paving the way for the award’s 30th anniversary ceremony, which will take place on February 28 in Ventspils. The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra also received three nominations.

In the classical and vocal music album category, albums produced by the SKANI publishing house with music by Andris Dzenītis and Jānis Mediņš have been nominated.

In the cross-genre or instrumental music album category, the album with saxophone music by Ēriks Ešenvalds, recorded under the independent label "Prima Classic", has also been nominated.

The album “Andris Dzenītis. Symphonies No. 1 and No. 2” was recorded by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductors Guntis Kuzma and Christian Lindberg. The album, which has already received positive attention from foreign critics, includes the first two symphonies of composer Andris Dzenītis, as well as a fantasy based on the material from Emīls Dārziņš's not completely destroyed work “The Lonely Pine Tree. Falsification and epitaph".

The orchestra recorded the album “Jānis Mediņš. Piano Music” dedicated to the 135th anniversary of Jānis Mediņš’s birth together with its initiator of the idea – pianist Reinis Zariņš. It includes works for solo piano and the first Latvian Piano Concerto, recorded under the baton of conductor Kaspars Ādamsons.

The album of saxophone music by Ēriks Ešenvalds "Gratitude" was recorded by saxophonist Oskars Petrauskis. Several Latvian musicians participated in the recording, including organist Liene Andreta Kalnciema and singer Marina Rebeka. Together with Oskars Petrauskis, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of British conductor Douglas Bostock, recorded Ešenvalds' saxophone concerto "Arctic Visions. Sea".

These, as well as other recordings by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, can be heard on SPOTIFY.
