The magic flute and the symphonic power of Dvořák

20/04/2024    18.00
Concert Hall GREAT AMBER, Great Hall, Liepāja

The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra invites you to a concert, where the magical sound of the flute will fuse with the power of Antonin Dvořák's symphonic music.

The audience will hear Stanislaw Moniuszko's overture to the opera “Halka”, which is the first Polish national opera. Its two-act version was performed by Stanislaw Moniuszko in 1848 in Vilnius, and, due to the opera's patriotic content, it took ten years until it became possible to perform it in its full four-act version; in Warsaw this performance was a triumphant success.

For the first time the audience will be able to hear the Concerto for flute and orchestra by the Ukrainian-born Latvian composer Marina Gribinčika, where Reinis Lapa, the concertmaster of the flutes of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, will take the stage as the soloist.

At the end of the concert we will hear Czech composer Antonin Dvořák's Symphony No.7, which is one of his most popular symphonic works. The Symphony No.7 is one of Dvořák's masterpieces, demonstrating the composer's ability to combine the national and the universal, the traditional and the innovative, the emotional and the intellectual. It is a symphony that reflects Dvořák's love for his homeland and his admiration for the new world.

Polish conductor Tadeusz Wojciechowski, who is known as one of the best interpreters of Moniuszko and Dvořák’s music, will take the place at the conductor's desk. In 2012, Mr.Wojciechowski participated in the Liepāja International Pianism Star Festival, so this concert will be a long-awaited comeback to the Liepāja audience.
